Cross-country skiing is one of the best ways to experience winter in Lake Placid. Our groomed trail networks make getting out a snap, and warmth and food are never far. Cross-country ski centers are also great places to try skiing — rent equipment, get some pointers from the staff, and master the basics on wide, well maintained paths.
Ski centers are where it's at
Between Cascade X-C Ski Center and the Olympic venue at Mount Van Hoevenberg, there are plenty of groomed trails for you to explore. New to cross-country skiing? No worries, you can get all the rentals equipment you need for a great day on the trails. Mount Van Hoevenberg, site of the cross-country skiing events of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, offers more than 50km of trails, including 4km of world championship rate trails, with variety for everyone. Over at the Cascade X-C Ski Center, you can ski, stay, shop, and eat, all at one super cool location (pun intended!). With 20km of groomed trails, a cozy bunkhouse, an awesome ski shop, and Kicker's bar and restaurant, skiers of all abilities can make Cascade their winter getaway destination.
