The Hostel

At TMax-n-Topo's Hostel we welcome anyone from a single wandering soul to a group of up to 33. We have 4 bunk-rooms (one with 8 bunks, one with 6 bunks, and two with 4 bunks each) for 22 bunks overall. There are guest bathrooms, each with an individual shower, downstairs with the bunk-rooms. The ground floor has a very large kitchen with a Garland Range, a dining area and sitting room. We have wireless internet and cable TV, or you can relax on our giant porch.

Motel Rooms

Upstairs we have two motel rooms, one that sleeps up to six and has a full kitchen and sitting room, while the other sleeps up to five and has a small refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave. Both private rooms have cable TV along with their own bathroom and shower.  

Where We Are

We are located very near the edge of the High Peak Wilderness, and also less than 12 miles from Whiteface Mountain, a premiere ski resort and site of the 1980 Winter Olympics alpine events. Whiteface has the largest vertical drop in the east at 3430 feet! TMax-n-Topo's is mere moments from several of the major trail-heads (Adirondack Loj road is 1/2 mile to the west, and we’re only 3.2 miles from Cascade Mountain trailhead) for hiking the Adirondack High Peaks along with some of the best ice-climbing in the northeast. The Hostel is situated just outside the village of Lake Placid, so you can relax on our property while still only being minutes away from the Olympic Village!

Our Story

TMax and topofgothics (Terri and David) met in the Adirondacks in 2003 and we have been hiking here ever since. Topofgothics has been at it for better than 20 years, slightly longer than TMax. We both love the area and had fantasized about having a hostel here for a long time. We are both Adirondack 46ers who our Winter 46er Rockers and are working the Grid. We are experienced in climbing these peaks so we can offer lots of information to aspiring 46ers or anyone simply out for a stroll. David completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2009. He also enjoys downhill skiing and canoeing. Terri is working on hiking all of the state high-points.  Topo is the comfortable-looking frog you see on our logo. He was a gift from TMax to topofgothics years ago and has been on almost every hike with him since. He oversees the operations of the hostel and makes sure we are getting our work done. Keep your eyes open for him, since you never know when he'll pop out!
