With sunny summer weather apparently finally with us, this week should be great for getting out and enjoying the multitude of events around the area.

Start off your weekend with the 3 day Paul Smiths VIC's annual Great Adirondack Birding Celebration which kicks off on Friday May 31st. The annual event attracts birders from all over the country with lectures, workshops and field trips, one of which ventures all the way to Lake Champlain and parts in between in search of migratory birds. Some of the events require pre-registration.

In Mineville on June 1 join in on the Mineville-IronOreMan Event by hiking to the summit of Cheney Mountain and you'll get a custom patch and award certificate. Also in the hiking department, Saturday is National Trails Day, which is the largest celebration of our nation's trail system.

The Adriondack Mountain Club will be celebrating National Trails Day at Adirondack Loj, by asking volunteers to help them complete a variety of trail projects, followed by a BBQ, music and a raffle. Camping for volunteers will be offered free at the Wilderness Campground at Adirondack Loj. This is a great way to give back for all the enjoyment our Adirondack trails give us throughout the year.

And one more in the hiking category, and also in celebration of National Trails Day, is Essex's Celebrate CATS (Champlain Area Trail System) Trails event. The event will take place at Block House Farm in Essex. The late afternoon portion will be preceded by some guided hikes for adults as well as kids. All are welcome. There is a donation which will help support the organization's trails work.

This week most farmers markets in the region will open for the season with weekly markets at many communities. There are pancake breakfasts, musicals, art shows, film, concerts and much more.
