Adirondack road safety

Safe and scenic, our roads are for all forms of traveler

Adirondack roadways offer so much more than a way to get from A to B. Our scenic roadways connect communities, feature spectacular scenic views, and offer opportunities for getting outdoors.

Much like mulit-use trails in our forests, our roads are multi-purpose, too! In addition to vehicular traffic, they attract cyclists of all abilities, from those training for big races to those just taking in the views.

Follow these tips to share roads safely

While methods of transportation may differ, the goal is the same for everyone — safe and scenic travel!

Bikes

  • Ride single file on narrow roads and when cars are passing
  • Heed all traffic signs and lights
  • Be visible – wear bright clothing, maintain reflectors, and use a bike light
  • Ride like you would drive. Use turn signals, look out for pedestrians, and be mindful of motorists

Cars

  • Be patient and pass only when safe
  • Slow down when passing and allow at least 3 feet of space
  • Think of bikers as fellow drivers. They have a right to the road, too!

This one is important for everyone—don't drive or ride distracted. Pay attention and look out for one another. These tips also pertain to scooter travel within Lake Placid!

Enjoy the views and get there safely!
