Lake Placid Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K Travel Impacts

The Lake Placid Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K will have the following traffic impacts on Sunday, June 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Travel Impacts

  • Main St – Closed between the Town Hall and Mirror Lake Dr (High Peaks Resort) from 7:45-8:30 a.m.
  • No overnight parking on Main St from Central Garage to Cummings Rd., Saturday 2:00 a.m. to Sunday morning. Parking will resume on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
  • Mirror Lake Drive – From Northwood Rd. to Harbor Ln., expect delays and use caution. From Harbor Ln. to Northwood Road, CLOSED 8-8:45 a.m. Closed from Parkside Dr. to Northwood Rd. from 8-8:45 a.m.
  • Parkside Dr – Closed from Mirror Lake Dr to Morningside Dr. from 8:15-9:00 a.m. Local traffic permitted, please use caution.
  • Newman Rd – Expect runners outbound (10K race, 100 max participants) from 8:20-9:00 a.m.
  • Old Military Rd – Be aware of runner presence on the sidewalk westbound from 8:25-9:05 a.m.
  • Station St – Be aware of runners on the sidewalk 8:30-9:30 a.m.
  • Rte. 73/Rte. 86 Intersection at Mill Hill – Expect delays from 8:15-9:00 a.m.
  • Rte. 73/Sentinel Rd/Cascade Rd – Southbound lane closed from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. between Main St intersection and Old Military Rd. intersection. Northbound lane open (use caution) to local traffic with
    delays expected at Old Military Rd. intersection. Runners will travel in northbound lane from the John
    Brown Farm/Sentinel Rd intersection to River Rd.
  • Mill Pond Dr, McLenathan Ave – Closed inbound from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Local traffic only. Please use caution.
  • School St – Closed between McLenathan Ave and Colden Ave from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please use McKinley St as a detour.
  • River Rd – Open to local traffic only, please use caution.

Available Routes

  • For Northbound through traffic on Rte. 73 entering Lake Placid: Head west on Old Military Rd. at the ski jumps. Follow Old Military Rd. to firehouse and make a right on Mill Pond Dr. Make a left on WesValley
    Rd. and right onto Cummins Rd. to arrive at Main St.
  • For Southbound traffic leaving Lake Placid on Rte. 73: Make right off Main St. at Cummins Rd. and left
    at WesValley Rd. Make a right onto Mill Pond Dr. and left onto Old Military Rd. at the firehouse. Old
    Military Rd. intersects Rte. 73 at the ski jumps.
  • Two-way alternating vehicle traffic will continue throughout the event at the ski jump bridge on Rte. 73
    with Old Military Rd. accessible in both directions. Runners will be confined to northbound Rte. 73
    between the John Brown Farm/Sentinel Rd intersection and River Rd. while traffic is metered in the
    southbound lane.
  • Runners will proceed clockwise around Mirror Lake Dr. on the inside lane from 8-8:45 a.m. Vehicles will
    be allowed around Mirror Lake Dr. from Northwood Rd. to Harbor Way during this period.
  • Traveling on Rte. 86 West through Lake Placid: avoid possible early morning delays by utilizing
    Northwood Rd., Mirror Lake Dr., and Harbor Lane to reach Saranac Ave. Please understand this route will
    be unavailable from 8-9:00 a.m. as runners proceed around Mirror Lake.
  • Traveling East towards Wilmington: use Mirror Lake Dr and Northwood Rd.
