About IBU Cup
IBU Cup is the second-highest level of international biathlon competition, serving as a proving ground for World Cup qualification and future Olympic participation. The multi-discipline races combine cross-country skiing and precision rifle shooting.
The IBU Cup originated during the 1982-83 winter season and was called the Biathlon European Cup until 2007-08. Lake Placid is the only stop outside of Europe during the 2025-26 season.
Venue: Mt Van Hoevenberg
Just weeks after the 2026 Winter Games, elite level biathletes will bring speed, precision, and drama to Lake Placid’s legendary Nordic trails!
Whether you’re a passionate skier, curious newcomer, or just looking for a high-energy winter getaway, this event has it all: elite competition, family activities, and plenty of local flavor. With exciting weekend races and a legacy of Olympic excellence, the IBU Cup is your ticket to experience biathlon like never before!
Visiting Lake Placid
Visiting Lake Placid for the first time for the IBU World Cup? Welcome! There is so much to do here on the cusp on winter and spring. Find helpful resources for planning your trip and getting to Lake Placid—a tiny mountain town within hours of several major northeast metro areas, including New York City, Boston, and Montreal!
While you're here, be sure to experience our other legendary Olympic sites, and take advantage of all downtown has to offer, including great dining, shopping, and lodge-style lakeside stays. This region is known for its incredible outdoor recreation opportunities (the Adirondacks is the largest nature preserve in the lower 48 states!) but it's also home to a vibrant arts and culture scene and plenty of opportunities to relax.
