Whiteface Mountain, Wilmington, New York
We are only a few short weeks from opening day of the ski and ride season on Friday, November 23rd. This is the calm before the storm as Whiteface Mountain Ski Area is putting together the final touches for a stellar 2012-13 season. There are a few new goodies in store for this year.

Hoyt's High new snowmaking

Out on the slopes
The big drive for this year is bigger, better snowmaking – an essential ingredient to a great day at the mountain. Piping is being installed to add snowmaking capabilities to Hoyt's High, a 4,700-foot long expert trail created in 2008 as part of the Lookout Mountain expansion. New Energy Efficient snowmaking in the form of fan guns, pole guns and ground guns are being added to various parts of the mountain. These snow guns feature snow production in warmer weather, use less air, cover larger areas, and optimize snowmaking results in inclement weather (ie. changing winds, etc.). This will equate to better coverage for both pre/post season and everything in between.
