Fish Species

Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Land-Locked Salmon, Large Mouth Bass, Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass

If the lake is the namesake of one of the most popular fishing lures, then you can bet it’s a good place to wet a line.

Getting there

There is no boat ramp, so canoes are your best bet, but it’s worth a look, as you could hook into something with some size; some northerns run into the 12- to 15-pound range and browns have reached 5-7 pounds.

Access is via a carry-down launch on Forest Home Road on the south shore and another off Route 30 on the north side by the bridge.

Fishing

Lake Clear not only gave us the Wabbler, it continues to give anglers landlocked salmon, especially to those who choose to troll with the time-tested Lake Clear Wabbler tipped with a worm. Located in the Saranac Wild Forest, the lake holds a smorgasbord of fish species in addition to the landlocks – brown trout, lake trout, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brown bullhead.

Ice Fishing

Fish for trout and landlocked salmon all year. Trout of any size may be kept, with a daily limit of five; for landlocks, the minimum is 15 inches with a daily limit of three.
