Geology Hike at Cascade Welcome Center

Discover the fascinating story written in the Adirondack landscape! Join our engaging geology walk with St. Lawrence University Geology Professor, Dr. Alexander K. Stewart at Cascade Welcome Center. We'll explore the mountains' deep geological history and the powerful glacial forces that shaped the surface geology around us. Learn how to observe trees as valuable indicators of landscape changes and environmental conditions. You'll practice evaluating landscapes firsthand, based on the simple idea that anything we can observe, we can evaluate! No special equipment or prior skills are necessary. Curious about a rock or mineral you've found? Bring it along – we'll set aside time to help with identification.

Participants should be prepared to spend most of the program outdoors. This hike will take participants on rolling trails which will likely be muddy. Please bring water, a way to carry it, and anything else you need to stay comfortable while hiking.

Registration is strongly recommended, but not required. Register to ensure your spot in this program.
