Risk-Proofing Your Business: Legal Basics That Matter Seminar
Bond, Schoeneck & King Attorneys will host a complimentary seminar, “Risk-Proofing Your Business: Legal Basics That Matter,” on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 9:00a.m. to noon at High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid.
About
This practical legal education session will focus on three core areas that affect everyday business operations: contracts, intellectual property, and litigation readiness. Designed for business owners and professionals, the program will provide valuable guidance on reducing legal risk and protecting company interests.
The session will begin with an overview of contract fundamentals, including what makes a contract enforceable, key performance obligations, and commonly used provisions such as payment terms, termination rights, limitations of liability, and noncompete restrictions. Attendees will gain practical insight into how contracts can be used to allocate and manage risk, as well as what to expect if a contract is breached.
The program will also explore intellectual property protections, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Participants will learn what each type of protection covers, how rights are obtained and enforced, and common pitfalls businesses should avoid.
The final segment will address litigation readiness, covering what to do when served with a demand letter or complaint, when the duty to preserve documents is triggered, and best practices for preserving key information.
