Fall History Hike up Goodman Mountain

John Brown Farm’s Fall History Hike Series will start off at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, with a hike up Goodman Mountain. Participants must register in advance. Register by calling or texting the guide at 518-806-9719 at least a day before the hike. Hikers should come prepared with proper footwear and clothing for changeable weather. Bring water and lunch for a stop at the summit. Hikers will meet at the Goodman Mtn parking area, NOT at John Brown Farm. Details available upon registration.
History of Goodman Mountain
Goodman Mountain is named for Andrew Goodman, one of three men killed on June 21, 1964 by members of the Ku Klux Klan, for their work on voting rights in Mississippi during Freedom Summer. Goodman grew up in NYC, but his grandfather built a camp on land near the mountain near Tupper Lake, and Andrew spent many summers there in his youth.
