Earth Day History Hike

The first of our Spring History Hikes!

Join us for a walk on April 22, 2026 toward Lyman and Anna Eppes’ first Adirondack home on their land grant, part of Gerrit Smith’s “scheme of justice and benevolence”. Learn the story Timbuctoo and of the Eppes' family life in the Adirondacks.

More About the Hike

This hike on an old camp road will cross through Henry and Mildred Uihlein Foundation land onto NYS Wild Forest land. The route first descends then ascends about 250 feet over a mile, before the turn-around point, and is about 2 miles round trip. Registered participants can arrange to meet the guide at John Brown Farm no later than 10:10 am to drive to the starting point of the route. The hike will start at 10:30am at a point on Bear Cub Lane. Participants should bring water and a snack.
