John Brown Lives! presents Americans Who Tell the Truth, an outdoor gallery walk featuring 28 portraits by artist Robert Shetterly of Americans who dedicated their lives to advancing equal voting rights in the United States. The public program invites community members to learn about and draw inspiration from historic figures including Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, and Paul Robeson, as well as living Americans such as Sherrilyn Ifill, Heather Cox Richardson, and the Rev. William Barber.

Enjoy cider, donuts, and apples during the event, with a children's story hour under the tent at 4:15 p.m. each day.

Americans Who Tell the Truth is a portrait series by artist Robert Shetterly highlighting Americans who have stood up for equal rights and social justice. The outdoor gallery installation provides an opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn about the individuals featured and explore their contributions to American history.
More About the Program
The program is part of We Want More History!, a coordinated national celebration of history programming taking place around the country in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. The initiative brings libraries, parks, museums, historic sites, schools, and community organizations together for programs that connect people with the stories of the places they call home and highlight the role of history in public life.
