Your perfect eclipse is coming!

A total solar eclipse is such a big event, we decided to make the fun last a bit longer. In the days leading up to the eclipse, special events and activities will be taking place throughout the Lake Placid area, as well as in neighboring regions just a short drive away. To help you make the most of your time in Lake Placid, we've put together this handy guide to the many unique, stellar events happening the weekend before April 8!

Special events in Lake Placid

Saturday, April 6

  • Solar Eclipse Story Time - Get ready for the big day with celestial-themed story time and crafts at The Bookstore Plus! Event starts at 10 a.m. and includes making cereal box eclipse viewers.
  • Eclipse Beer Keg Tapping - Join Raquette River Brewing's Lake Placid tasting room for a special, limited launch full of flavor! Starting at 12 p.m.
  • Pond Skimming and Rock the 'Face at Whiteface Mountain - Splash-worthy thrills await at Whiteface, with a day full of wild events, live music from Big Boss Sausage, and great skiing. Costumes are encouraged! Starting at 12 p.m.

Sunday, April 7

  • Eclipse the House! - The Lake Placid Olympic Center is celebrating on ice! From 5 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. there will be hours of curling and public skating available under cosmic lighting with music in both the 1932 and 1980 rinks. Roamers Café and Bar will be serving food and drinks.

Monday, April 8

  • Olympic Center Curling - Pretend that curling stone is a moon rock and let it fly at the Olympic Center! Enjoy curling from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Après Eclipse and Legacy Lodge Deck Party at Whiteface Mountain - Head to the Olympic mountain for pre-eclipse ski runs and post-eclipse live music, food and drink specials, and more! Lift tickets are just $40!

  • Jay Craft Fair - From 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., explore the amazing artistry of local craftspeople, painters, photographers, potters, and more!
  • Out of this World Party at Twisted Raven in Wilmington - Costumes, space-themed drinks, DJ, and so much more for a stellar Saturday night, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Dollshot Live in Concert in Upper Jay - Get into an electro-pop groove with Brooklyn-based Dollshot at the Upper Jay Art Center, 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
  • Blue Line Eclipse Concert in Tupper Lake - Savor a violin and cello duo performing classical favorites, popular standards, and a few traditional Jewish tunes. Starts at 7 p.m. at the Beth Joseph Synagogue.

  • Solar Eclipse Sound Bath at New Vida Preserve in Wilmington - Heal, transform, and rejuvenate! Immerse yourself in a full-body sound "massage." The healing harmonics work to realign your entire system ~ a restorative bath of sound, from 3 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
  • Total Solar Eclipse Festival at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake - A can't-miss event, this family-friendly festival is a three-day, weekend-long event full of live music, glass blowing, food trucks, solar-powered fun, commemorative tattoos, and much, much more. From 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • 2024 Science Fair Drag Brunch in Saranac Lake - Indulge in a delightful brunch buffet and bottomless mimosas while enjoying fabulous drag performances inspired by the wonders of science. Seating 1 starts at 10 a.m. Seating 2 starts at 1:30 p.m.
  • Totality in Tupper with the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory, the Adirondack's only astronomy-based organization - On Sunday, their festivities kick off at the L.P. Quinn Elementary School in Tupper Lake with NASA ambassadors, engaging science experiments, a planetarium, astronomy talks and panel discussions, food trucks, and more.

  • Solar Eclipse Brunch Buffet at the Hungry Trout in Wilmington - April 8 is going to be a big day, so start it off with a legendary brunch, available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the world-famous Hungry Trout Resort. Make your reservation now!
  • Eclipse Exhibit Opening Reception at Saranac Lake Artists Guild Gallery - Explore captivating artworks inspired by the celestial phenomenon of eclipses.   • Alien Invasion Eclipse Party at Twisted Raven in Wilmington - View the eclipse at Twisted Raven while enjoying food, drinks, and music. Get fun photos with the Raven’s alien! From 12 p.m. - 9 p.m.
