Eagle Slide on Giant Mountain

  • Route 9, Keene Valley

One thousand vertical feet of slab climbing hanging over spectacular views. Plenty of clean anorthosite as you go. This is considered an excellent, airy route.

How to get there

Giant Mountain trailhead: Route 9, 4.9 miles north of the junction with Route 73, and 1.3 miles south of the New Russian Post Office.

By the numbers

  • Distance: 8 miles to summit. Moderate climb with some rock scrambles.
  • Elevation: 4,627 feet

Rock climbing

Despite its status as a "scramble", this route should be regarded as a rock climb, and, as such, should only be attempted by those with adequate experience. Climbing slides can lead to incredible thrills and views, but also some risk due to dead ends, and exposed positions.
