Back again, the Willard Hanmer Guideboat and Canoe Race!
The Willard Hanmer Guideboat and Canoe Race returns to Saranac Lake on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Whether you're competing on the water or cheering from the shore, this cherished Adirondack tradition is a celebration of craftsmanship, community, and outdoor recreation.
With races for all ages and experience levels, and a festive atmosphere full of music, food, and family fun, this event is the perfect summer day out. Bring the whole crew—spectators, seasoned paddlers, and first-time racers are all welcome.

Race Day Schedule:
8:30-10:00am: On Lake- Flat Water events, 2 person guide boat, SUP and Junior Class registration and check in. Complete waiver and receive boat number.
10:30am: Flatwater races on Lake Flower. Entrant meeting before the start. Two person guideboat, SUP, and Junior classes
10:00am-11:30am: Down River event, Solo Guide Boat, Canoe and Kayak registration and check-in, complete waiver and receive boat number.
12:00pm: Downriver races to the Fish and Game Club. Entrant meeting before the start. Solo guideboat, solo and two-person canoe, solo and two-person kayak, C-4 Racing, Rub-a-Dub
1:30pm: Awards, family friendly festivities, food and beverage vendors, music at the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club finish line.

This Year - Junior Classes Paddle for Free!
The Saranac Lake Kiwanis Club has very generously volunteered to sponsor ALL Junior class (16 and under) paddler entries this year! We thank them for their generous support and the opportunity to introduce more youth to the sport of paddling and paddle racing. Please note that all junior participants are still required to register and submit a signed waiver.

Waiver Required
All paddlers must bring a signed liability waiver on race day. This form is required to participate and must be submitted at check-in.

Additional Information
A U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket is required for all paddlers.
Oarlocks are not permitted on canoes.
Racers may enter multiple events, but races will not be delayed for double entries.
Junior flatwater races follow a looped course. Junior paddlers with parental permission may enter downriver events—please notify race officials at registration.
Costumes are welcome in the Rub-a-Dub division, with a special award for best dressed.
