Lake Placid Olympic Center
It was at the Lake Placid Olympic Center that the U.S. men’s hockey team toppled the Soviet Union on their way to winning the gold medal in 1980 and 16-year-old figure skater Sonja Henie charmed the world, winning a gold medal in the 1932 Winter Olympics. But the glory isn’t all behind us—every year the 7,700-seat 1980 Rink, Herb Brooks Arena, hosts national and international figure skating competitions, USA Hockey events, Stars on Ice, ECAC Hockey Championships, and more. In the summer, see top new skaters perform each weekend for our Saturday Night Ice Shows in the historic 1932 Jack Shea Arena!
Take a one-hour tour and learn about the Olympic Center’s history, current role and future plans, and hear first-hand stories from our guides who were there for the Games in 1980. Tours begin daily at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m. (closed Christmas Day).
