I keep thinking that the leaves are just going to finally fall off the trees, but they are hanging on to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to see them. For some reason this year is particularly spectacular. I think I may say that every year because I forget what an amazing sight it is to see the Adirondack Mountains ablaze with the rich colors of autumn. My daughter's favorite autumn color is pink. You may think that the trees don't really become pink, but if you look at the blending of some of the yellows, oranges and brilliant red, the leaves do indeed have a pinkish cast to them.
There are all sorts of festivals this time of year but one event that celebrates the change of season is the Flaming Leaves Festival at the Olympic Jumping Complex. The event focuses on national and regional ski jumper competitors. One of the Saturday races is part of the continuing Art Devlin Cup Series so look forward to following the 90-meter competition to see how the competitors place during this race named in memory of one of Lake Placid's greatest ski jumpers.

The Devlin Cup is awarded each December following the Masters Jump. The Flaming Leaves Festival isn't just about ski jumping, though it is quite amazing to watch the competitors soar overhead and landing on the artificial turf. There are also plenty of children's activities such as tie-dying shirts (bring your own or buy one there), lawn games and even a horseshoe tournament. Of course the event wouldn't be complete with the live Blues music and plenty of barbeque. Don't forget the ride the chairlift and take the elevator to the Observation room. It is all included.
Open from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on October 6-7 at the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid, the Flaming Leaves Festival has a few ticket options. For one day the cost is $15 for adults or $9 for children (7-12) and seniors while the two-day pass is $25 for adults or $15 for children or seniors. It is free for children under six.
