Lake Placid is a FEELING; not a place.

An adjective; not a noun.

People don't want to just GO to Lake Placid...

they want to BE Lake Placid.

This past week I had the pleasure of meeting, filming and creating a video with Elizabeth Izzo. Elizabeth is a native of Lake Placid, attends college at the University of New Hampshire, and is a competitive nordic skier. She was raised by athletic parents who are cyclists and mini-triathlon competitors, and who have instilled in Elizabeth a great love for the outdoors and competitive sports, foremost being nordic skiing and cycling. View the video to meet Elizabeth in person and find out what her favorite cycling routes are.

Cycling has grown dramatically in popularity in our region, partially due to the annual Ironman Lake Placid event, held each year in late July. Ironman consists of a 2.4 miles swim in Mirror Lake, followed by a 112 mile bike leg and ending with a full marathon run (26.2 miles).  Ironman competitors begin arriving here on weekends as early as late April or early May to train on the 56 mile road bike route (which is done twice for the actual race itself). Each Monday in summer, High Peaks Cyclery organizes a mini-traithlon, which includes a kids tri as well, and is very popular with visitors.

The region also offers multiple mountain biking opportunities in the area for those who like to stay away from road biking. Read about them on lakeplacid.com. Our spectacular wilderness is an added bonus while you're out on the trails pumping those pedals!  Whichever you choose, grab a bike and go cycling!
