Events in Lake Placid
In the High Peaks Region, we live to be outdoors once the warm air pushes winter away for good. Our summer schedule is filled with multiple outdoor events to keep you moving well into the fall.
Our first major event of the season brings runners from all over the country and the world to participate in the Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon, taking place this year on June 12. An event to watch for sure, the mass start is an amazing sight as it snakes up through the closed Main Street.
As we move into summer, the Lake Placid and I Love New York horse shows take center stage from June 28 to July 10. Some of the best competitors on the international show jumping circuit will take to the ring for big money prizes over the course of the two weeks.
For those visiting during Independence Day weekend, Lake Placid pulls out all the stops. The ever popular I Love BBQ and Music Festival will run from July 3 – 5. Come out and watch some of the best barbecue competitors in the country, taste their creations, and listen to some awesome live music. And don't miss our spectacular "Set the Night to Music" fireworks extravaganza on the night of July 4, following the Fourth of July parade.
Summer rolls along with cultural events, festivals, farmers markets, concerts, and enough to keep you hopping through the season.
If you find yourself in town the last weekend in July, make sure you watch some or all of the Ironman Lake Placid race on July 24. Athletes start shortly after sunrise, an amazing sight to behold as more than 3,000 swimmers hit Mirror Lake en masse for the 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile road bike, and a full marathon run. It's a grueling day for the athletes and an incredible competition to watch.
Sporting events like Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse and Can-Am Rugby follow Ironman with the largest gatherings of the sports in North America.
There is something happening all of the time in the High Peaks Region, so check our events calendar and join in the fun!
