Events in Lake Placid
In Lake Placid, the fun doesn't end when you leave the trail. On any given day, you might find wine tastings, live music, educational workshops, sporting events, art openings, theatre productions, festivals, or farmers markets.
Our first major event of the season brings runners from all over the world to compete in the Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon on June 10. The mass start is an amazing sight to behold as it snakes north through the closed Main Street. Moving into summer, the Lake Placid and I Love New York horse shows take center stage from June 27 - July 9. It's two weeks of the best competitors on the international show jumping circuit.
For those visiting during Independence Day weekend, Lake Placid pulls out all the stops. The ever popular I Love BBQ and Music Festival runs from July 7 - 9. Watch some of the best BBQ competitors in the country, taste their creations, and listen to some awesome live music. And don't miss our spectacular "Set the Night to Music" fireworks extravaganza on the night of July 4, following the July 4 parade.
If you find yourself in town the last weekend in July, make sure you watch some or all of the Ironman Lake Placid race on July 23rd. The amazing post-sunrise start is something to behold, as over 3,000 swimmers hit Mirror Lake for the 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile road bike, and a full marathon run. It's a grueling day for the athletes and an amazing competition to watch. Other sporting events include Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse and Can Am Rugby, some of the largest gatherings of the sports in North America.
