Beer trips for brew lovers are all the rage, and it's time to put the Adirondacks on your list — if you haven't already! Lake Placid and the area around it has seen a growing beer scene in recent years.
The Lake Placid Pub and Brewery is the old favorite with its popular and well-known Ubu — which was a favorite of Bill Clinton's — and Great Adirondack Brewing has been winning awards for its creative brews for years.
In 2016 we saw the addition of Big Slide Brewery & Public House, which focuses on pushing the envelope of beer styles. With 10 beers on tap, they dabble in a wide variety of styles, with a wall of wooden barrels in the middle of the bar where house beers soak up the flavor of liquors or wines, and they have a separate fermentation room called the Funk Room, designed specifically for sour and wild-fermented beers such as Berliner weiss, gose, and lambic beers.
