Lake Placid is an excellent location for any runner, whether in training or for general fitness. Known for our accommodating nature to sports and athletes, our area features a variety of road runs perfect for any distance. Runners flock to Lake Placid for it's varied terrain and scenic run routes. There is a mountain landscape, lake, forest or brook around every bend- guaranteed to keep you visually engaged while on your run.
Lake Placid's scenic runs & favorites
A favorite short loop is the 2.7 mile flat surface run around Mirror Lake in the center of town- the Central Park run of the Adirondacks! If your interested in a bit more mileage with views on a non aggressive route, however still part of the "Lake Placid Classic" Half Marathon and IRONMAN course, consider River Road- 4.1 miles long and a 8.2 mile down and back- with both directions featuring different scenery and views.
All of the running routes listed below can have additional mileage added by looping in and out of an off shoot road to get you to your specific mileage point. These run routes feature large shoulders, visibility and some with side walks for extra safety while road running. You will note while running in Lake Placid many of these routes are marked with traffic signs advising drivers caution as athletes are training- a sure sign you are in a runners paradise.
