Fish Species

Brown Trout, Land-Locked Salmon

Put your fishing knowledge to the test here. Test your skill and luck by casting at the base of the area's waterfalls.

Getting there

From the intersection of state Route 73 and 86 in Lake Placid, follow Route 73 toward Keene. Continue through Keene, Keene Valley, and St. Huberts. Roughly 2.75 miles past Chapel Pond there is a steel bridge; the parking area is just prior to the bridge. If the parking area is full, park on the opposite side of the bridge, along the wide shoulder of the road.

Fishing

Head up or downstream from the bridge — there's plenty of shore fishing to be had, with ample room to do it comfortably. Fly fishing and wading is the best option, but floating a lure tends to work well too.

Boat access: None

Insider tips: There are a ton of small waterfalls on the North Fork of the river. Use the pools at their bases for better production. The fish are typically pretty small, but fun to catch, on this part of the river.

Fish species: Brown trout, landlocked salmon

Special Regulations: Always follow New York state fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a NYS Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
