About the Olympic Center

It was at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in 1980 that the US men’s hockey team toppled the Soviet Union on their way to winning the gold medal and 16-year-old figure skater Sonja Henie charmed the world, winning a gold medal in the 1932 Winter Olympics. But the glory isn’t all behind us—every year the 7,700-seat 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena hosts national and international figure skating competitions, USA Hockey events, , ECAC Hockey Championships, and more. 

Olympic Museum

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum opened its doors on December 8th, 2022 to the public.

The new Museum is a treasure trove of history featuring interactive exhibits, innovative displays, and North America’s second largest Winter Olympic artifact collection. One that reveals the boundless spirit of Olympians and the Olympic Games. A spirit, you’ll discover, that lives in you, too.  Learn more. 

Indoor skating

Enjoy skating on the 1932 or 1980 Olympic rinks during select times. Check the website for current skating schedule. 

Hockey

Get time on the ice with one of their Stick n Puck sessions. Offered during holiday periods. Check the website for schedule. 

Skating on the Oval - Winter Only

There are only a few places in the world you can experience skating on an outdoor oval. Located directly next to the Olympic Center, the James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval is a great activity for the whole family. Bring your own skates or rent from them! Learn more.

Conference Center

The Olympic Center is also home to the Lake Placid Conference and Convention Center. A perfect place for your next meeting, wedding, or large event!
