[img:lax0805s.jpg]LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS - An event that started with seven teams 24 years ago in Lake Placid has evolved into the premiere lacrosse event in the nation as the annual Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Tournament week begins with the scholastic divisions taking center stage beginning Monday, August 5.

Contests will be held in boys and girls scholastic divisions, men's and women's open divisions, and men's masters, grand masters and super grand masters.

Adult division action takes over beginning Wednesday afternoon and continues through the weekend. Saturday is the marquee day of the entire week as playoff games will be held in eight divisions, and will feature well-known teams and individuals. A total of 90 games - the most ever to be played in one day - are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10. Championship Sunday concludes the busy week, with all activity ending by 3 p.m.

The Lake Placid event began in 1990 as a weekend event with seven teams and 14 games. It has since doubled each year in size.  In 2009, a scholastic division was added - making it even more of a family-oriented event in which it is possible for kids, parents and grandparents to all participate in games during the weeklong competition.

For this, the 24th Annual tournament, organizers unveiled the incorporation of the first event use of the official Lake Placid mark and brand elements into the Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse event materials.

“The colorful Lake Placid, Adirondacks USA logo, or mark was developed a few years ago,” said James McKenna, president of the Lake Placid-based Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism. “This artwork represents the culmination of an in-depth process to develop a brand identity that reflects what Lake Placid means to our residents and visitors.”

The mark itself reflects the quaint village of Lake Placid, sheltered by the Adirondack wilderness. It includes mountains, Whiteface and lakes surrounded by four aspects that infer movement, represent the four seasons, and allude to some colors of international flags. The colors are intentional: blue; water, clear sky. Red; warm vibrant. Yellow; happy, sun and grey; a tone that allows contrast.
