Snow shoe events change location from Saranac Lake to Paul Smith's College

lake placid, adirondacks, usa – Despite recent snowfall in the Adirondacks totaling 10-17 inches in some locales, a bout of warm weather has resulted in a change of venue for the snow shoeing events in the Empire State Winter Games (Empire State Winter Games).

Paul Smith's College will now be the scene for snow shoeing for the sprints and the five kilometer event. The college soccer field and / or the Visitors Interpretive Center trails will conduct the competitions. Originally, those events were to have been held at the Petrova Middle School and Mount Pisgah. The Saranac Lake ski and ride center will return to snowmaking when temperatures allow and will host the boy's and girl's slalom races.

Due to the overnight weather, cross country skiing and biathlon, as well as adaptive cross country and adaptive biathlon, have moved to the Olympic Jumping Complex. ORDA continues to prepare a course around the complex in order to hold competitions. There is snowmaking capability at that site.

A torch run, supported by Stewart's Shops, begins at 9 AM today in Elizabethtown.

The Opening Ceremony takes place Thursday night, February 2, at 6:00 in the Lake Placid Olympic Center, featuring the lighting of the cauldron.  For more information about the Games, visit www.empirestatewintergames.com
