Lake Placid, NY- The world's leading running magazine, Runner's World, reports that a recent readership survey voted the Lake Placid Marathon as the second most popular "Best Destination" race in the United States. Results are listed in the January 2010 issue of Runner's World Marathon Guide now on newsstands nation wide.

According to the survey, the Lake Placid Marathon's high ranking is the result of voting done by 7,980 runners who took the 2008 runnersworld.com survey online over a 383 day period. Over 430 marathons were held in the United States in 2008 (Runner's World, 2010).

The Lake Placid Marathon was the national runner-up behind the Big Sur Marathon in California.

Co-race directors Jeff Edwards and Brad Konkler are thrilled. "Lake Placid is known internationally as a sports town and we are pleased to host a major event in the Olympic Region during what was once a slow time for local businesses and tourism. The word about our race is spreading quickly and we expect our biggest field of runners in June 2010. We are clearly becoming the premier early season race in the Northeast," says Edwards.

"We are a big race with small town charm and the Runner's World reader survey proves that," said Konkler. "There are thousands of excellent races for runners to choose from each year in the U.S. and it amazes me that we consistently draw runners from over 40 U.S. States, Canada and abroad. People love the Olympic Village, the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains and the local hospitality. We work hard year-round to ensure our race weekend is a fantastic all around experience. Our aim is to showcase the Lake Placid Region to the running community and we are firmly on track with that goal. Every year we get bigger and better."

Race weekend activities for the 6th annual Lake Placid Marathon & Half take place June 11-13, 2010. Race day is Sunday June 13. For more information go to www.lakeplacidmarathon.com.
