FAQ for Crossing the United States/Canada Border

 

What do I need to cross the border into the United States?

You will need to have the following documentation available at the time of border crossing:

  • Passport, Enhanced License, or NEXUS 
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated

What do I need to cross the border into Canada?

Download the ArriveCan App from the App Store and follow the prompts to enter your information.

Have the following documentation available at the time of border crossing:

  • Passport, Enhanced License, or NEXUS 
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated
  • All travelers, 5 years of age or older, must show printed proof of COVID-19 negative test taken within 72 hours crossing the border into Canada. The following types of tests are acceptable:
    • PCR - Polymerase chain reaction
    • Nucleic acid test (NAT) or Nucleic acid amplification test (NAATs)
    • Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP)

Will I need to get tested before returning home to Canada?

To save time and make your trip easier, we strongly recommend scheduling your test prior to arrival in the United States.

Proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within 72 hours of travel back into Canada, is required. For short trips that are under 72 hours total, Canadians do not need to be tested.

Where can I get tested?

Adirondack Health provides a testing clinic at the Adirondack Medical Center Testing Clinic located at 2233 State Route 86, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

Hours:

  • Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Scheduling:

Appointments and pre-registration are required. To schedule a test, please visit AdirondackHealth.org and utilize the online COVID test scheduling platform.

What type of test does Adirondack Health perform?

  • The testing clinic exclusively performs PCR tests. 

How quickly can I get my results?

  • Test results are typically available within 48 hours. 

How much will the test cost from Adirondack Health?

  • Without insurance or a testing order, the cost of the test is $80.00(US). 

How will I get my results from Adirondack Health?

  • A day after your COVID-19 test, you may receive an email with instructions on how to open a patient portal account. This account will enable you to access the results of your COVID-19 test, once it is processed. 

How far in advance can I make an appointment?

  • You can make an appointment with Adirondack Health up to one week in advance. Same-day testing appointments are available, but you must pre-register before arriving. To schedule a test, please visit AdirondackHealth.org and utilize the online COVID test scheduling platform.  

Are there alternative testing locations?

  • Yes, testing is also available at the following locations. Please check directly with the facility for the most up-to-date information.
