LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – On Saturday, June 25, members of the public are invited to come and slide at the USA Luge indoor start training facility. The refrigerated ramps are located at 57 Church Street in Lake Placid, site of USA Luge's headquarters. Sliding, which is a part of Lake Placid's celebration of Olympic Day, runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free of charge.

Luge athletes will also be on hand at the U.S. Olympic Training Center from 10-11 a.m. to sign autographs and generate interest in the local luge program. The Olympic Training Center is located at 196 Old Military Rd., just steps away from the USA Luge headquarters.

Village of Lake Placid Mayor Craig Randall will open Olympic Day with the Olympic Day Proclamation.

In addition to luge, the free event gives families and youngsters the chance to try Olympic sports and meet athletes from biathlon, bobsled, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle aerials, speed skating, figure skating and canoe/kayak.

Guests at the Olympic Training Center will have the chance to win prizes throughout the event including water bottles, USA hats and lunch for four at the Training Center. Participants will also receive a discount flyer for use at ORDA facilities.

Every year, Olympic Day is celebrated by thousands of people, in more than 160 countries. Commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games, Olympic Day is not only a celebration, but an international effort to promote fitness and well-being in addition to Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship
