LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS - Things are heating up for next month's 6th annual Lake Placid Marathon & Half taking place in the Olympic Village on Sunday, June 13, 2010.  A record crowd is expected; event organizers report that race entry is approaching 2,400 runners and a record field of 2,500 is expected. The full 26.2 mile marathon closed out in March; entry for the 13.1 mile half marathon remains open.

Lake Placid and the surrounding communities are preparing for the thousands of athletes, friends and family who will be arriving next month from over 30 U.S. States, Canada, Europe, and Asia for the race. The race will also host runners from the U.S. Territory of Guam and the Marshall Islands located in Micronesia. "The geographic diversity of this race is amazing. People are intrigued by beautiful Olympic Village of Lake Placid and the word has spread world-wide about the quality of this event," reports co-race director Jeff Edwards.

Lake Placid Marathon & Half participants typically arrive a few days before race day to enjoy the High Peaks region and local amenities. According to Jenn Holdereid of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in downtown Lake Placid, the event has a great economic impact. "More and more runners and guests are choosing to extend their marathon weekend in Lake Placid and stay a few extra days after the race," says Holdereid. "They just love what the area has to offer. This event has grown tremendously over the past five years and now officially kicks off our summer season."

Race weekend will consist of Athlete Check-In for runners on Saturday, June 12 from 1:00  - 7:00 PM at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort. A special Kids Run will take place at the Olympic Oval on Saturday at 2:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public. Registration for the Kids Run begins at 1:00 PM and each participant receives a Brooks Sports race bib and a prize. The Sunday, June 13 race begins at 8:00 AM on Main Street near the High School and will  finish inside the Olympic Oval. A full Athlete Village will be set up on race day and is open to the public.
