Invitation from Andrew Weibrecht and The Make-A-Wish Foundation
As long time friends of the Mirror Lake Inn and my family, I wanted to let you know about several special opportunities to help an important organization with which I am involved. For the past two-and-a-half years, I have been a trustee of Make-A-Wish Northeast New York, an organization that grants wishes to Upstate New York children ages 2 ½ to 18 with critical medical conditions. While I have heard many stories about the power of a wish, recently my family and I had a chance to witness it first-hand. We hosted Tiago, an 8-year-old cancer survivor from Miami Springs, Florida, who had never seen snow but wanted to and wanted to bobsled. Through the generosity of the people of Lake Placid and the Olympic movement, for nearly a week Tiago and his family spent time with U.S. Olympic and World Cup medalists, witnessed World Cup Bobsled and Skeleton competition, rode in a bobsled, snowboarded, spoke with members of the Jamaican Bobsled team, and experienced the beauties of our Olympic Village first-hand from their home-base here at the Mirror Lake Inn.
To assist others like Tiago in realizing their heartfelt wishes, the staff at Make-A-Wish Northeast New York, Whiteface Mountain, and we at the Mirror Lake Inn have created a series of opportunities we thought you might enjoy.
On March 24, anyone who donates $10 to Make-A-Wish Northeast New York will receive a half-price lift ticket to Whiteface.
That same day, if you would like to ski with me, we will free ski from 10-11:30 a.m. and then, from 1:30-3 p.m. will run gates in a recreational dual giant slalom. This is not just for racers. It is for anyone who loves skiing and wants to try something new, no matter your ability. So that I get a chance to spend time with all participating, this opportunity will be limited to the first 50 registrants. A $100 donation will be required here ($75 if you are a Whiteface season ticket holder).
At 3:45 p.m., we will move into the Main Lodge for a free reception at which we will be drawing for a three-day, two-night stay at the Inn and a chance to ski privately with me. Tickets are available for $25 (or five for $100) and only 350 will be sold.
Finally, if you want to extend your stay that weekend or just come up for the activities on the 24th, we are offering a special $159 room rate that night. Just call Reservations and tell them that you are taking part in the Make-A-Wish activities and the staff will be delighted to book you for the night of the 24th.
We are grateful to Whiteface Mountain and all who are assisting in this special series of activities.
To register for the chance to ski with me or the raffle, contact Make-A-Wish Northeast New York at (518) 456-9474.
I look forward to the chance to see you all on the 24th as we inaugurate this very special series of events for Make-A-Wish Northeast New York and the children it serves.
