PLEASE NOTE: The Olympic Speed Speed Skating Oval is currently closed for renovations!
This year, extensive renovations will be done to modernize and improve the Lake Placid Olympic Sites. Renovations to The Olympic Speed Skating Oval include upgrades to the refrigeration system to extend the skating season. In addition, a new building, and other visitor amenities are being constructed.
The project is designed to prepare the sites for hosting the 2023 World University Games, to add new unique experiences for both residents and visitors, and to continue the Olympic legacy to be enjoyed by generations to come. It is anticipated that this Oval will be once again welcoming skaters of all ages and abilities in time for the 2021-22 skating season.
Skate circles around your friends and family on the same ice where Eric Heiden won an astounding five Olympic gold medals in 1980! The Olympic Skating Oval is one of the few outdoor rinks of its kind left in the country and it sits in the heart of the Lake Placid village, where plenty of shopping, dining, and family fun await. Skate rentals available.
This activity and many others are included with your purchase of an Olympic Sites Passport!
