High Peaks Mountain Guides
At High Peaks Mountain Guides, we have everything you need for your Adirondack adventures! We specialize in comprehensive outfitting, gear rentals, and trip planning for single and multi-day trips in the Adirondack State Park. We offer private instruction, group programs, school outings and vacation getaways for half-day, full-day, overnight and multi-day excursions.
We boast some of the finest and most experienced licensed New York State guides in the Adirondack Park as well as a professional sales staff to help you gear up and prepare for your next adventure. We are fully insured and have guides certified by Red Cross, American Heart Association, SOLO, New York State and AMGA. We are a member of the American Canoe Association and partners with the American Alpine Club.
We also have three group lodging houses available through our High Peaks Basecamp Lodging, located above and next door to our Guide Service and shop—High Peaks Cyclery. Each of our houses sleep up to 10-12 people comfortably with cozy living spaces, full kitchens and baths, laundry on the premises, and great views of the High Peaks mountains out of every window.

Canoe, Kayak & SUP: We provide rentals, shuttle services, trip planning, and instruction for all types of water excursions. Our guide service can get you out on the water for half day, full day, overnight and multi-day outings. We also offer a two hour introductory course for beginners who want to develop basic skills to feel comfortable out on the open water. Join us to explore the pristine waters of the Adirondack Park or test your skills on the great Lake Champlain.
Rock Climb: Rock climbing opportunities in the Adirondacks are endless whether you are a beginner or an experienced climber. Our guides can provide you with a climbing experience that will last a lifetime. We offer instructional courses in all level of the rock craft—from top roping and lead climbing to knot work and anchor setting we’re here to customize a rock climbing trip just for you!
Camping and Backpacking: For those who really want to explore the backcountry we’ll help you get there on an overnight camping or multi-day backpacking trip. We offer trips in the High Peaks region for aspiring 46er’s, multi-sport trips (e.g. canoeing, hiking and camping), as well as winter mountaineering camping adventures. New to camping? Join us for an introductory course on camping preparation from set-up to break-down and you’ll be set for all of your future adventures!
Road Biking and Adventure Cycling: The Adirondack roadways and byways offer world-class road routes and scenery. Our popular coaching rides give you the best of both worlds—with skill and technique clinics as well as a day of riding. Our professional staff will make you feel comfortable and confident; from beginner riders to experienced racers we offer the very best that the Adirondacks have to offer. Choose an inclusive trips—with rentals and outfitting, support vehicles, energy food and drink—or customize your adventure to meet your needs. What’s best of all: at the end of the day our technicians will clean, polish and tune your two-wheel friend!
Mountain Biking: Our downtown Lake Placid store—High Peaks Cyclery—has a repair, rental and sales department ready to set you up for a great day of mountain biking. We are located just one mile from the infamous Lussi Trail System and Logger’s Loop, so you can park and ride right from our shop parking lot! Our High Peaks Mountain Bike Center at Mount Van Hoevenberg (OSC) offers excellent opportunities to ride some of the best trails in the Adirondacks; with well over 20 kilometers of world class single track trails and even more double track trails, there’s something for everyone at Van Ho. Stop by for rental bikes, lessons, repair center, slalom and trail courses and chat with our friendly and professional staff. To hone your skills sign up for a “Fun Not Fear" Dirt Camp and become the rider you always wanted to be. Interested in a thrilling downhill riding experience? We also run the Downhill Mountain Bike Center at Whiteface Mountain; take the gondola up to the top of Little Whiteface and ride the steepest mountain in the east!
Hiking: Hiking is one of the most popular ways to explore the beauty of the Adirondack Park and High Peaks Region. Join High Peaks Mountain Guides and bag one of the 46 High Peaks, explore a fire tower mountain, or take a scenic stroll with an educational focus. Our guides have a wealth of knowledge of the area, from the trail systems to the history and environment, and we are happy to customize your hike to best meet your interests, goals, and ability!
