Suddenly, with the arrival of daylight savings time, the longer days seem even longer. And of course, the longer days mean one thing to me — maple syrup!   It's all about maple! The sap is running and the local maple producers' evaporators are boiling as they produce the maple syrup that will be contested in our third annual Tastes of Maple event. In conjunction with New York State Maple Weekends, we'll celebrate Adirondack Maple Weekend on April 2 and 3. The third annual Tastes of Maple is one of the highlights. Held in the Conference Center at Lake Placid from 2 to 4 p... continue reading

We’ve been getting in the holiday spirit around the office over the last couple weeks. Furiously working on our cubicles for our holiday decorating contest, decorating the visitors center, and planning our holiday staff party. Between lights, trees, garlands, candy canes, wrapping paper, toy trains, snow flakes, a singing elf, a mini Yukon Cornelius, and assorted other decorations, our office feels like it’s the epitome of ‘winter wonderland’ status. That is, until you step out the front door. Lake Placid never ceases to go all out and impress for the holiday season. The real holiday... continue reading
Insider's Tip: Pick Owl's Head to get your novice hiker hooked! Lake Placid and the High Peaks Region is home to countless miles of hiking trails to explore and peaks to summit. But, here's the thing, and it's one of my favorite insider's tips: You don't have to spend all day climbing one of the 46 High Peaks to get a great view and soak in your fill of nature! We love hiking Owl's Head (a simple 10-15 minute drive from town), Cobble Hill (less than a mile from Main Street in Lake Placid Village), or simply walking/biking the 2.7 mile Mirror Lake paved loop. And, new to our repertoire, we... continue reading
New: Heaven Hill Trails  My 6-year-old, Oliver, and I decided to check out the new Heaven Hill Trails, and we are hooked. They are now on our weekly-outing list. Close to town with a variety of lengths to choose from, these relatively flat paths are an awesome addition to all the family-friendly activities Lake Placid has to offer! Choose your own adventure I think one of my favorite things about the Adirondacks' newest trail system is the variety of options. There are three main loops and all of the paths are relatively flat and accessible. The Big Field Loop is 0.9 mile long and... continue reading
Don't miss all our local shops With the foliage season winding down and more indoor activities calling, I went out in search of some 'different kinds of fun' around town. Lake Placid has a few pretty unique shopping offerings if you're looking to do something different!  I was looking for something new to do on a rainy day last week. Just Bead It on Main Street drew me in. Stacy DeClerque, the owner, greeted me and showed me around. Stacy has traveled the world far and wide to find some of the most unique beads and findings for her shop. Not only does she sell beads, but accessories and... continue reading
Scenic Flight: This family's first! Blogger's Note:  Last year I had an amazing opportunity to take Oliver on his first flight. And, not only was it his first flight, it was a scenic flight on a gorgeous early-fall Adirondack day. Now that summer is upon us, I think it's time to check out the views once again! Here's a recap of what you can expect from this family-friendly adventure - don't forget to scroll through the slideshow above for more pics and views from above! Two awesome things about a Lake Placid scenic flight: First, within minutes of walking into the Adirondack Flying... continue reading
