Axton Landing to Stony Creek PondsAn Adirondack Everglade StoryAs many of you know Lake Placid is a hub for hiking mountains of all sizes and trails of all abilities but what gets often forgotten is its close proximity to countless lakes, rivers and ponds. This week I decided I would explore paddling the waters at Axton Landing. Axton Landing as many hikers might recognize, by name, is the landing on the Raquette River that is passed as you drive down Coreys Road to explore the Seward Range. Many might not realize its significance to the paddling world and region this landing awards visitors.... continue reading

From arts to action sports, Spring is filled with events to keep everyone happy this year. Adult puppet entertainment! In the arts realm, Lake Placid Center for the Arts brings to the stage a nice schedule of entertainment, including a touring production of the Broadway smash hit, 'Avenue Q' on June 6 and 7. With its irreverent and decidedly gown-up humor, the show's stars, felt puppets, portray a recent college graduate and his new neighbors who all live on Avenue Q. Hysterically funny and  fast-paced, the key words are fun, fun and fun! (Warning - this show is most... continue reading

Copy and paste Let’s face it- having twins or multiples is NOTHING like having children a year or two apart regardless of what your friends or family say. No one will believe you when you tell them this, except for other parents of multiples; thus we have a bond. You may not know me personally nor I you, but we are still in this together. My twins are 2.5, which is the equivalent of 5 in Gremlin years, I think. This is an age of fearlessness, exploration, wonder and no good sense. With two, follow the leader is a popular game, and the leader being of the same mindset... continue reading

The High PeaksWhat’s the perfect choice for a first winter climb? The High Peaks in winter can be very intimidating to climbers who have limited or no winter experience, but if you make the correct choices it shouldn’t be overwhelming. Yes, I would agree many of the High Peaks in winter are a grand undertaking and should not be a first winter peak. Many of the High Peaks require 10-12 hours of time in the woods and well over 12-miles during that day. However, with any mountain in winter there are a few things to keep in mind before you go out; am I equipped with the correct snowshoes? How am I... continue reading

I learned how to skate when I was three years old, the love of skating and being out on the ice was a passion my parents had passed on to me. By the age of five I had absolutely fallen in love with the sport of Figure Skating. I remember watching and cheering on my idol, Michele Kwan in the 1998 and 2002 Olympic Winter Games. I recall seeing Tara Lipinski capturing the coveted gold medal, causing an upset in the 2002 games. Glory and heartbreak are all part of what make the Olympics such a powerful and highly anticipated event.    Lake Placid has hosted not one, but two... continue reading
