Children will delight in visits with Santa, craft-making, ballet, movies and skating, to name a few.  The weekend kicks off with an artists exhibit and celebration at Northwoods Inn on Friday at 5 pm.  Following that will be free crafting making for kids at the Olympic Museum and a FREE skating party at the Herb Brooks Olympic Arena, 1932 rink.  Skate rentals will be available or bring your own.

Retail promotions, sales and giveaways will be the order at Lake Placid's business establishments. Look for the brochure listing promotions, tastings and live entertainment, available at your hotel or in Mid's Park at the WSLP radio tent.

Lake Placid even throws in an 8 a.m. 5K run for those who just can't put those running shoes away in the winter. The Jingle Bell Run is a fun 5k run/walk around Mirror Lake, sponsored by Adirondack Healt h to benefit their Fit for Life programs. Strollers are welcome as well, but leave your pooches home by the fire please.  You can register early on active.com and save!

Throughout the weekend several establishments will be hosting live entertainment into the wee hours, as well as dinner specials and all kinds of promotions by retailers around the village. There are at least fifteen free events throughout the weekend in addition to the retail and dining promotions. Most of the free events are family friendly, centering around kids and family fun.  One of the more popular events is Santa's arrival at Mid's Park at noon on Saturday. Bring the kids to visit with Santa so they can present him with their wish lists for 2013.

Saturday afternoon throughout the village there will be free tastings from a large contingent of Lake Placid's fine eating establishments. Come early to sample some of our talented chef's best creations, free from 1:00 - 2:00 pm.

The culmination of Saturday's activities is the Mid's Park Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting. The Lake Placid Central School Chorus will perform and the Yule Log, hunted for by kids earlier in the day, will be burned in a decades-old Lake Placid tradition, followed by the lighting of the big tree, ushering in the winter holidays!

Sunday will be a big entertainment day as well, with breakfast with Santa at participating hotels, a free showing of the movie The Polar Express at the Palace Theatre, and the Nutcracker Ballet at Lake Placid Center for the Arts. Sunday's culmination will take place at the 1932 Olympic Arena, site of the figure skating events during the 1932 Olympic Winter Games here in Lake Placid.  "Holiday Dreams on Ice" will wow you with figure skaters from both the local skating club and guest appearances from some larger clubs in the Northeast. The highlight of the show will be the re-enactment of Sonja Henie's gold medal-winning performance from the 1932 Lake Placid Olympics by a soloist, backdropped by original footage of Henie skating the same program. You won't want to miss this show!
