This Labor Day weekend why not cruise around the region and find as many events to attend as possible?  There's a lot on tap here in the High Peaks Region this weekend, so check out our calendar, and plan your day(s) of touring accordingly.

In Saranac Lake, Hobofest is the big event on the calendar on Sunday, August 31st at the Union Depot in Saranac Lake. Hobofest celebrates American roots culture and the independent spirit with free musical performances from noon til late. Acts include Mamie Minch, Annabelle Chvostek, Biscuit Rollers, Stoneground Express, Mouthbreather, Tall County, Fox & the Feather, Thick as Thieves, James & Jane, Danny & Caroline, and Dan King. In Lake Placid on Sept. 1, try not to miss the 31st Annual Olympic Car Show.Open to all makes, models & years. BBQ & Family Entertainment highlight the day following the annual parade down Saranac Avenue, Main Street and on to the Olympic Speekskating Oval, beginning at 11:45 a.m. Nearly 100 cars enter this annual event each year.

There are also lots of cultural events on the calendar, too numerous to list. Check out Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid Center for the Arts in Lake Placid for some cultural options this week. There are farmers markets in several communities during the week. What better time to find some of the best produce and locally produced wares than a farmers market at summer's end?! Check out our list of regional farmers markets and pick up some great things to take home. In Saranac Lake, Farm 2 Fork Festival augments the Saturday Farmers Market. For a nominal fee, you get samples from a host of cooks using local products in their creations. Don't miss this one!

This weekend also marks the first ADK 80K on August 31st and September 1st.  The races cover 80 kilometers (80k) in distance, in a figure-8 design, feature $8,000 in prizes in 8 categories with an 8:00 a.m. start time. The weekend consists of two separate events, both taking place on the Mount Van Hoevenberg trail system used in the 1980 Olympic Winter Games biathlon and cross country ski races, and now celebrating 20 years as the home base of High Peak Mountain Bike Center.
