The Depot Theatre in Westport on Lake Champlain's highly entertaining 2019 main stage season includes a revue of best-known musicals, a heavenly, hilarious play and a fan favorite musical featuring a 50s-era boy band.
The season opens with THE WORLD GOES ‘ROUND with performances from June 29 - July 14, with a $20 Preview on June 28. This musical review is a clever collage from the songbook of the multi-Tony award-winning team of John Kander and Fred Ebb. The songs are pulled from their best-known musicals, Cabaret and Chicago, and lesser remembered ones such as The Act and Woman of the Year, as well as the films New York, New York and Funny Lady.
The show features five artists singing unforgettable gems, including “Mr. Cellophane,” “My Coloring Book,” “All That Jazz,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” “Money, Money,” “Maybe This Time,” “Cabaret” and “New York, New York,” seamlessly interwoven into a passionate, harmonious, up-tempo evening of musical theatre.
The season ramps up with the hilarious play AN ACT OF GOD, in which after many millennia, God (assisted by devoted angels) will reveal the mysteries of the Bible and answer some of the greatest existential questions that plague mankind.
Filled with maximum humor and earthy reality, AN ACT OF GOD is based on a satirical book and the Twitter account of David Javerbaum, who has written for some of today’s hottest comedians, including Jon Stewart. Performances will be July 20 - August 4, with a $20 Preview on July 19.
A delightful musical revue set in the 50s, FOREVER PLAID rounds out the season, telling the tale of four childhood friends who, after paying their dues performing at grocery store grand openings have an opportunity to do a real gig.
