Volunteering Opportunities:
There is no better way to meet all kinds of people from every walk of life. Volunteering at the Visitors Bureau will give you the opportunity to interact with leisure travelers, conventioneers and locals alike; each who need your help to enjoy and explore the area.

Ambassador
As an ambassador, you will be making the first impression when a visitor arrives at our Welcome Center. If you are a “people person”, we can use your friendly smile and welcoming voice to assist visitors with travel inquiries or to suggest local products and services that match their interests. We might ask you to greet guests in the Welcome Center in our lobby, man convention hospitality tables, conduct surveys or act as “on the road” ambassadors.

Office Helpers
As an office helper, you will perform a variety of tasks. These include helping with the fulfillment of mailings, brochure handling, data entry, welcome bag stuffing and the delivery of welcome signs to local businesses.

Qualifications
Both positions require people with a friendly and courteous manner and a professional appearance. To be an Ambassador, you should be generally familiar with the area and be willing to learn to give directions and other detailed information about attractions, hotels, dining and events. You must be fluent in English. A second language will be an asset.

Students Very Welcome
We believe that the best educational experience is gained through the practical application of your skills. Volunteering offers the opportunity to explore career options, make valuable connections, build resumes, gain new skills and meet people. You will also be contributing to a non-profit organization that helps to create and maintain jobs in your community. Students aged 14 and older are encouraged to apply (with parental permission).

Training
We ask that you complete an application and an interview with the Director of Customer Relations & Events. The purpose of the interview is for us to be able to match your interests and talents with our available volunteer positions.

Initial training will consist of one 2- hour session followed by a 1-hour familiarization tour. Ongoing training sessions will be scheduled as necessary. Once you have completed a training session we ask that you work a minimum of 4-hours a month to remain active in the program. Seasonal applicants may request a leave of absence and resume their position, if available, upon returning to the area.

Identification Badges and Dress Code
You will be asked to wear an identification badge whenever you are representing the Lake Placid/Essex County Visitors Bureau. These badges should not be worn at any other time. Dressing in a professional manner is expected.
