LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS USA - Over 250 professional outdoor communicators will be in Lake Placid, N.Y. this week for the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) and New York State Outdoor Writers Association (NYSOWA) combined annual conference on September 13-16.

The conference and its attendees have been eagerly anticipated since the OWAA selected Lake Placid as their annual meeting location in 2011. “The Lake Placid Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Olympic Regional Development Authority staff has been working with organizers on the logistics for years now, as is typical for a conference of this scope,” said Maryjane Lawrence, director of sales and marketing at the Lake Placid CVB. “The attendees will be busy; professional development conference sessions will be held at the Conference Center at Lake Placid, but there will also be a demo day at Heart Lake, a shooting day at Heaven Hill Farm and a reception at the Wild Center.”

Conference attendees include newspaper, radio, television, photography and video media professionals whose focus is outdoors topics, ranging from fishing to hiking to rock climbing to hunting and more.

“This conference is a perfect convergence of meetings/group and the leisure travel markets, and a great opportunity to showcase the very thing that drives leisure travel overnight visitation to our region; the outdoor recreational opportunities,” said Kim Rielly, director of communications for the Lake Placid CVB. “In addition to exploring the spectacular setting of the conference itself in Lake Placid, some of the attendees will experience, and ultimately promote, more of the Adirondack region’s outdoor paradise as they participate in a variety of guided outings before and after the scheduled meetings, too.”

Interested non-members are invited to participate in the conference agenda as well! OWAA is offering a free, half-day workshop titled “Becoming an Outdoors Communicator” on Friday, Sept. 13 from 3-6 p.m., at the Conference Center at Lake Placid.

The workshop is the perfect opportunity for anyone who thinks outdoor communications may be for them, but doesn’t know where to start and how to be successful. No experience is necessary, and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers. Those interested in attending this free workshop are requested to pre-register at.

Workshop participants are also welcome to attend OWAA’s three-day conference as a guest. After signing up for this free event, learn more about the entire conference at https://owaa.org/about/ or call OWAA headquarters at 406-728-7434.
