[img:adkswimminghole.jpg]The clear waters and crisp mountain air of Lake Placid and the Adirondack Mountains are the perfect backdrop for family fun. From classic attractions to hiking, biking, fishing or paddling in the Adirondack outdoor paradise, this is the ideal place for families to stay and play!

There is an endless list of summer activities, but here is a 6-pack sampler to get started!

  1. Learn about the Adirondacks at the The Wild Center, the region’s natural history museum. Here kids can meet Adirondack wildlife up close, and see this summer’s featured film “Flight of the Butterflies”, walk the nature trails and play in The Pines, a living exhibit.

  2. Beat the heat at one of the many Adirondack swimming holes - there are plenty to choose from in over 3,000 lakes, ponds and rivers!
  3. Hike! Try the most popular Adirondack activity of all time; whether it’s a short stroll at the Peninsula Trails, a 2.7 mile walk around Mirror Lake or a High Peak!
  4. Attend an event: from music concerts and theater performances to sports competitions to ice shows to historic reenactments and more!

  5. Visit the top of Whiteface Mountain, the 5th highest peak in the Adirondacks. New this summer, explore Whiteface: the Exhibit: the highest exhibition in New York State, with informational signboards about the flora, fauna and geology of this beautiful place. The mountain is accessible by car on the Veteran’s Memorial Highway, on foot via the hiking trails or by gondola!
  6. Roll on down: Try downhill mountain biking on the beginner and intermediate family-friendly trails at Whiteface Mountain’s Downhill Mountain Bike Park. Bike and gear rentals are available for everyone in the group!

Of course there are plenty of other attractions, historic sites and other things to do, plus shopping and dining to round out a visit.  For post-adventure respite, the region offers a variety of places to stay, from hotels to cabins to resorts. Visitors are encouraged to view the many available lodging packages!
