LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Miles Lussi, the field’s youngest jumper, jumped the furthest and took home the gold medal from Wednesday’s, July 4, 90-meter ski jumping competition held in Lake Placid, N.Y. The 14-year-old from Lake Placid soared 100 and 95 meters to take first place and the lead in the chase for the 2012 Art Devlin Cup.

Wednesday’s competition included three rounds of jumping. The best jump from the first two rounds was added to the third round score to determine the order of finish. Christian Friberg (Roseville, Minn.), who soared to an opening round jump of 97 meters and a final round jump of 85 meters, was second with 182 points, 13 points behind Lussi.

Mike Glasder (Cary, Ill.) combined jumps of 90 meters, in the first round, and 91 meters in the finals, and finished just one point behind Friberg, in third place.

The Art Devlin Cup series resumes Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Olympic Jumping Complex with the Flaming Leaves ski jump competition. The 2012 champion will be crowned on Jan. 28.

The Art Devlin Cup honors legendary U.S. ski jumper and Lake Placid native Art Devlin. Devlin competed in the 1948, 1952 and 1956 Olympic Winter Games.

Devlin was also commissioned in the Army Air Corps during World War II and flew 50 missions over Germany, before moving to the broadcast booth, where he spent more than 20 years as a ski jump analyst for CBS and ABC television. He passed away in April 2004.
