LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS, USA - The Lake Placid CVB, Village of Lake Placid, Town of North Elba and World Triathlon Corporation are pleased to announce a five-year extension of the contract through 2017 for the annual Ironman Lake Placid event.

In a ceremony on July 20, officials and community members gathered to celebrate the contract extension and to unveil a permanent monument of appreciation to Ironman from the community.

The monument, located at the site of the Ironman swim start, was presented by the Ironman Experience Committee of the Lake Placid Business Association, Placid Planet Bicycles, Ironman athletes and their supporters, the Town of North Elba and the Village of Lake Placid to officials from the World Triathlon Corporation in appreciation of the event and its positive effect on the community and the region.

Materials for, and installation of the monument were provided by Ledger Construction, Wesley Moody Landscaping, and Placid Planet Bicycles.

"Ironman Lake Placid has had a tremendous impact on our region," said James McKenna, President of the Lake Placid CVB. "In addition to the great economic impact, Ironman contributes to the overall image of our destination as a sports center, and has a positive influence on our local youth."

The Ironman Community Fund, to date, has also contributed over $1 million in donations to various local not-for-profits. This year, the Fund will be contributing $5,000 to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department for a new Gator, $4,000 to the Adirondack Medical Center and $2,500 to the Uihlein/Ironman Sports of Lake Placid Fund, along with additional monies to participating charities.

The 2012 Ironman Lake Placid will be held on Sunday, July 22, and will be the 14th annual event held in Lake Placid. The contract for its continuation through 2017 has been signed by World Triathlon Corporation, the Village of Lake Placid, the Town of North Elba and the Lake Placid CVB/Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism.
