LAKE PLACID, Adirondacks N.Y. – Saturday, January 28, will be a day to remember, as the public, along with local politicians, will have the chance to blast down a frozen ramp at speeds over 35 miles per hour in an all-out effort for glory at the ROCK105 Adirondack International Toboggan Championships and Mayors Cup, presented by Saranac and Lake Placid Craft Brewing.

The general public will vie for exciting prizes, including cash, hotel rooms in Lake Placid, Whiteface ski passes and more, while mayors from around New York State will race for community pride. Teams of four will each take two runs down the course. The winners will be determined by who glides the farthest onto frozen Mirror Lake in Lake Placid.

Sponsored by ROCK105, Saranac and Lake Placid Craft Brewing, the Adirondack International Toboggan Championships is a benefit for USA Luge. The action will take place at the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute, located on Parkside Drive at the town beach. The chute is dedicated to Gerald F. Cassidy, who led the effort to build the structure in the 1960s.

The toboggan championship consists of two different competitions, the first of which is the Mayor's Cup, scheduled to get underway at 4 PM. The "race" will feature local mayors, supervisors and other elected officials competing in teams of four. The Mayor's Cup, which was hugely popular in the 1960s and 70s, was resurrected two years ago as part of the ROCK105 Adirondack International Toboggan Championships.

The Mayor's Cup winner will receive the Jeff and Janine Abbott Memorial Mayor's Cup medals.

Following the Mayor's Cup, the general public will compete in teams of four for the Gerald Cassidy Memorial Toboggan Trophy. They will slide for a host of prizes and medals.

Entry fees are $10 per person or $40 per sled. Registration for the event begins at 3 p.m.
