LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- It was an 18 year long wait for Boston Bruins' head athletic trainer Don DelNegro, of Lake Placid, N.Y. It was even longer for the NHL franchise and its fans. For some, 39 years between Stanley Cup crowns seemed like an eternity, but finally the Cup is back in Boston for the first time since 1972.

Since the on-ice celebration in Vancouver, when the Bruins defeated the Canucks, four games to three, claiming the franchise's sixth Stanley Cup crown, the Cup has been making its way through Canada and the United States. On Tuesday, July 12, DelNegro will bring sport's most recognizable trophy to the Conference Center at Lake Placid's Edelweiss Gallery for a public display, from 3-5 p.m. Admission is free.

During their Eastern Conference opening round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens, the Bruins spent two days in Lake Placid preparing for Game Four in Montreal. Down two games to one at the time of their visit, the Bruins went on to eliminate the Canadiens in seven games, before skating past both the Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning en route to the Stanley Cup Finals and their meeting with Vancouver.

Since 1914, the Stanley Cup has been awarded 94 times. The Boston Bruins are one of only four NHL franchises to win the Cup six or more times, joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have won the Stanley Cup 13 times, and the Detroit Red Wings, who have 11. The Montreal Canadiens have claimed the Stanley Cup a record 23 times.

Prior to joining the Bruins, DelNegro served five years as the director of Sports Medicine at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. He was also the head athletic trainer for the 1992 U.S. Olympic bobsled and luge teams, in Albertville, France, and was the head trainer for the U.S. men's hockey team during the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy. DelNegro was also the head trainer for Team USA during both the 2000 and 2005 World Hockey Championships.
