Fall:

See: The Adirondack's fiery fall foliage.

Explore the Lake Placid region and take in the colorful views from a variety of vantage points. Bring your bike and cruise along quiet country roads, hike to the top of one of the Adirondack High Peaks or paddle around one of our pristine waterways. Attend a seasonal festival, compete in an athletic competition or check out any of one of the enriching Lake Placid events.

Do: Head to the top of Whiteface Mountain.

Take in the views of the surrounding peaks. Ride the Cloudsplitter gondola to the top of little Whiteface, hike to the summit on the designated trail or drive up on the Veteran's Memorial Highway. Whiteface is one of the most popular Adirondack hiking trails and is also the only High Peak with road access to the top.

Take a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad and learn about Lake Placid history—it's a wilderness journey featuring mountain views and wildlife. Leave from the Lake Placid Station and visit the Lake Placid Historical Museum located inside. After a scenic ride, visit the historic farm of John Brown— the famous abolitionist who planned the raid of Harper's Ferry in 1859—or discover Lake Placid's competitive sports history at the Olympic Museum and venues.

 

Winter:

See: The snow-capped Adirondack Mountains.

The legendary Lake Placid winters offer an array of snowy outdoor activities for explorers of all ages—from skiing and riding the highest vertical drop in the East at Whiteface Mountain, to cross country skiing and snowshoeing backcountry trails, to sledding and skating on frozen lakes, to snowmobiling through the frosty forests. After a day of Lake Placid winter activities, curl up with a mug of hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire, walk through the village the of Lake Placid and discover local treasures or have a hearty Adirondack meal at one of the many Lake Placid restaurants.

Do: Spend a day outside.

Whether it's a leisurely walk through town, a day of Lake Placid skiing on nearby trails or riding down Whiteface Mountain, a dog sled ride across Mirror Lake or an evening skate on the outdoor oval, any day in Lake Placid is one to remember.

Visit the sites of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics—check out the Lake Placid Olympic Center, take an exhilarating ride on the bobsled run and experience the incredible mountain views from the top of the ski jumping complex! 


Spring:

See: The Sun Shine at Whiteface.

Spring skiing and riding at Whiteface Mountain is arguably some of the best—the snow softens, the sun shines bright and the mountain comes alive with outdoor deck activities, barbecues and a variety of fun events from themed costume contests to pond skimming.

Do: Try Whitewater Rafting.

The spring snow melt leaves the region's waterways rushing fast and full, perfect for whitewater rafting. Book a trip on the nearby Hudson River— featuring Class IV and V rapids, it's considered one of the best Adirondack whitewater rafting routes and one the top whitewater trips in the United States.

Go for a lower elevation hike, cross country ski or snowshoe through the woods. Milder temperatures signal the end of winter—get outside and enjoy the snow while it lasts. Rent equipment in town or bring your own and start exploring. You can go it alone or hire a licensed guide through Adirondack Guide Services to show you the ropes. 


Summer:

See: A starry Adirondack night.

Lake Placid summer activities revolve around spending time outside and enjoying all that the region has to offer—day or night. Camp under the trees, swim in pristine lakes, hike to the top of one of the High Peaks, relax on a sandy beach or simply enjoy a casual walk through town. Visit local shops, eat an ice cream cone by the water, go bowling or dine at a savory Lake Placid restaurant.

Do: Play golf.

Opt for a family game of mini golf or play a round on one of the 13 Lake Placid golf courses—including 5 signature championship layouts. Both offer green fairways, friendly competition and stunning views of the Adirondack Mountains.

Explore: Lake Placid events.

Throughout the summer, Lake Placid hosts a variety of annual competitions and popular events including Ironman Lake Placid, the Lake Placid Marathon, the Lake Placid film forum and the Lake Placid Horseshows, in addition to Lake Placid family activities, outdoor concerts, family-friendly shows, performances and exhibits.
