Skip Baker Memorial Hike To benefit the Equicenter ‘Heroes and Horses’ Veterans program
Come join us on Saturday August 11th 2018 for the inaugural ‘Skip Baker Memorial Fundraising Hike to benefit the Equicenter Heroes and Horses Veterans Program’.
In the summer of 2017, Ralph ‘Skip’ Baker lost his life while doing something he was passionate about, hiking in the Adirondack High Peaks. Skip was a 26-year Air Force Veteran who spent his retirement volunteering at the Equicenter in Honeoye NY, a non-profit organization. The Equicenter mission statement is to ‘foster the personal growth and individual achievement of people with disabilities, at-risk youth, Veterans, and their families using a wide range of therapeutic equestrian and related programs’. While volunteering at the Equicenter, Skip was essential to developing the ‘Heroes for Horses’ program for Veterans.
To honor Skip and raise funds to help continue the program he loved, TMax-n-Topo’s Hostel and the Equicenter are teaming up to promote what we hope will be a day full of fun, sun, views, and memories of not only Skip, but all Veterans who have served our country.
What to hike? Anything you want, or not at all! For those who do not feel like they are physically able to hike, Whiteface Mountain Veteran’s Memorial Highway is an option. Hikers can connect on the event’s Facebook page to form groups and get ideas. The Hostel, located just outside the village of Lake Placid, will have the party tent set up, and after 5 PM all participants are welcome to stop by. We’ll have some snacks, and participants can bring a dish to share if they wish. There’ll be stories to tell and a glass or three raised to our friend. Weather permitting we may also be able to tell more stories around the fire.
