2018 Mountaineering Festival
The Mountaineer and Adirondack Rock and River will be hosting the 22nd Annual Adirondack International Mountaineering Festival on January 12th through January 15th, 2017. Registration is OPEN and space is limited. Mountainfest is an annual celebration of ice climbing and mountaineering featuring guest athletes who entertain us with tales of climbing adventures, instructional clinics taught by visiting climbers and local guides, demo gear, raffles and a chance to gather the climbing community for an exciting winter weekend!
Kicking off the 22nd year of Mountainfest, on Friday evening, we’ll be hosting a slideshow from Rab Equipment Ambassador, Jeff Shapiro. Jeff is a true, modern day adventurer whose travels have taken him from Wingsuit Base Jumping and High-Altitude Alpine climbing to Ice Climbing and Hang-Gliding all over the planet. Stop by the Keene Arts Center and hear about Jeff’s perspective on human flight, climbing mountains and his perspective and belief that taking the next steps is a journey that could take you to a new level. Jeff’s slideshow will sure to be entertaining and not one to miss. The cost will be $10.00 at the door.
The weekend continues with evening slideshows from our guest climbers and offer a chance to win raffle gear and free giveaways.
On Saturday evening, World Renowned Alpinist Steve House takes the stage at Keene Central School at 7:30 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from who Reinhold Messner refers to as “The best high-altitude climbers in the world”. There will be a huge raffle of gear from our sponsors before the event. Tickets for Steve’s presentation are $10 at the door.
Before House’s presentation on Saturday, the Keene Valley Fire Department and the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery will be hosting an All-You-Can-Eat spaghetti dinner at the nearby fire hall starting at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for the spaghetti dinner are $15, with all proceeds benefiting the Keene Valley Fire Department. Get there early for this incredibly popular feast and join us after for Steve’s presentation!
On Sunday night you can join us at The Keene Arts Center for the last evening of slideshows and comradery with New Hampshire Local, Bayard Russell. Bayard will be giving a presentation on a recent trip to Newfoundland! Tickets are $10 at the door.
There will be instructional clinics on ice climbing, mountaineering, snowshoeing and avalanche awareness on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There are limited openings available for these clinics. More detailed registration information is available at www.mountaineer.com/mountainfest. On Saturday, demo gear will be available for public testing at The Mountaineer’s Garage Sale, located on Rt.73, Keene Valley, just down the street from The Mountaineer, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All Mountainfest evening presentations are open to the public. We encourage all attendees to bring a non-perishable donation to the Keene Food Pantry. Mountainfest is a charity event that supports local and regional non-profits every year, and we thank you for helping us continue this tradition.
Whether you come for the clinics or to just climb on your own, be sure to check out the evening entertainment, Mountainfest is THE place to be this Martin Luther King weekend. Be sure to stop by The Mountaineer during the weekend to take advantage of our special Mountainfest Sale.
