2 - 4 Hour Hikes

Half day hikes in the Adirondacks

A great way to spend half a day and perhaps bring a picnic is with our 2-4 hour hikes. Spend a bit more time out in nature than our 1-2 hour hikes without devoting the entire day out on the trail. Some of the featured half day hikes include an Adirondack Mountain peaks that you can reach, but you'll also find some easier wooded walks and historic walking tours to choose from.

  • Paul Smiths College Visitor Interperative Center (VIC) offers great, easy hikes, where you learn while you walk.
  • Cascade Mountain is a definite favorite, one of the 46 High Peaks, an intermediate level hike with an amazing view at the top.
  • A bit of extra effort can get you up close and personal with one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the Adirondacks at Beaver Meadow Falls.
  • Or hike Whiteface Landing to the lake where you can go for a swim or picnic before beginning your return trek.

If 2 to 4 hours is stretching it, try some more mild 1 to 2 hour hikes to enjoy either alone or with the family. Or if you are looking for a longer day in the woods check out our 4 to 8 hour hikes.
